Includes: 72hrs Permaculture Design Certification Training Online by Permafunk Institute & the Permaculutre Australian Institute + 72hrs implementing an Urban Homestead down town & a Post fire Urban Homestead in Paradise
We will run through the whole Design Process & Regeneration Implementation ( consultation work, design work, measuring the land, the permaculture design curriculum, pre/post fire solutions, implementation, reports & digital mapping work with Adobe Illustrator, Google Earth & more )
After the Internship Training Program we will pick 2 interns to be a part of our ecological business team.

Program Description

If you want to be a part of the Permaculture Institute team the internship required is 6 months total and we do the same curriculum and steps with double the design work & hands-on learnings. We only accept two interns under this conditions each semester.

Objectives:
6 students total under an INTERNSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM where they get to run through the whole business model of being a permaculture & regenerative designer - based on climate change & fire prevention & regeneration: ( consultation work, design work, measuring the landscape, implementation, reports of the design of what solutions got applied to what challenges & why, digital design mapping through Google Earth, Adobe Illustrator etc ).
BRAKE DOWN OF THE INTERNSHIP
1.st- Online learning part ( 72hrs total ):
Each student will run through a full Permaculture Design Certification course online with videos, personalized exercises, and teachers showing us Permaculture topics & projects around the world.
Most students complete the course in a month & if you have done one before this would be a beautiful refresh & it will be adding specific topics on climate change, fire preparation & regeneration.
Interns will be certified at the end in Permaculture Design by the Permafunk Institute & Permaculture Australian Institute.
2nd.- Hands-on learnings ( 72hrs total ):
9 days during the weekends where we will meet on site to see & help implement for 8hrs/day some of the design elements of an Urban Homestead post fire ( Paradise ) & apply some fire prevention solutions in the Urban Homestead ( Santa Cruz ).
The dates on how this happen & where will be add in a week from now.
Topics we will cover & do during the weekends of the internship:
- Soil builging
- Compost piles & compost teas
- Mulching
- Measuring the land for swales on contour
- Swale building with hugokultures underneath it & mushroom inoculations in them
- Companion Planting
- Food Forest & Medicinal Gardens on swales
- None dig garden techniques on the garden production areas
- Tree guilds ( companion planting for trees & shrubs ) on swales & living fences
- Carbon farming
- Regenerative Agriculture techniques
- Natural pest control techniques
- Weed management
- Water Management linked to catchments in gutters, roads, grey water systems from house to garden areas & a small pond
- Pollinator gardens
- Living Fences
3.- After we cover the Design Course ( online ) & the Implementation parts ( on these two pre/post fire sites ), we work on DESIGN WORK, CONSULTATION WORK, BUDGETS, DIGITAL DESIGN ( to create maps with Google Earth & Adobe Illustrator ) & creating REPORTS that help us explain the solutions applied to the actual challenges of each site & design.
So we run from beginning to end to end the whole Design Process like a professional designer does!

Lodging
Due to covid restrictions, students & interns have to find their own accomodation in the area

Expectations
1 & 2.- You are asked to complete the Online Permaculture Design Certification Course & work with the main designer - Rosa - some days of the install & after do consultation work, mapping, digital mapping, reports etc..
3.- After the Design Course & Implementation is covered, you are also expected to do some homework on designing the property we will be installing, doing research, consultation work, 7 learning how to use Google Earth & Adobe Illustrator for digital maps & create reports in all of the solutions applied, like a real designer would do on a paid project, so each student goes through the whole design process!!

In a brief paragraph, please tell us about your interest in permaculture farming, any knowledge you currently have regarding permaculture, and any experiences you have had in gardening or farming. If you have had prior training in permacutlture or farming work, please provide references. Share with us your work ethic and how you vision your role in this permaculture community. Internship starts with an Online course ( Permaculture Design Course ) & jumps into hands-on learnings while we install an urban homestead in a burned property in Paradise & we apply pre fire solutions in another ( Santa Cruz )
