Lee Atelier. (PhD, Cornell University) has over 18 years teaching experience in the College of Agriculture at California State University, Chico. He was a horticulture volunteer for the Peace Corps in Nepal for three years, worked for the USDA on agricultural water quality for three years in south Georgia, and has been teaching and doing research in Thailand since 2001. His research interests are in cropping systems and agricultural ecology, he directs the Organic Vegetable Project on the Chico State University Farm, and he is a certified educator in Holistic Management.
Richard King.
Richard’s professional career with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service includes 36 years of experience as a rangeland specialist, ecologist, and biologist. His work included training co-workers and assisting landowners with restoration or enhancement of rangelands, wetlands, cropland, chaparral, forests, woodlands, and stream corridors in northern Arizona, northwestern Nevada, and throughout northern California before retiring in 2012. Specific areas of experience and expertise currently
include grazing planning, increasing soil organic matter, replacing invasive/pest species with diverse communities of life, land infrastructure planning, biological monitoring, financial planning, consensus building, and Holistic Management®.
Christine Wood Christine Wood is professor emeritus after teaching psychology for 30 years. Over the that period she had developed a certificated program in peace and global studies, a multidisciplinary approach focusing on building peace with self, others, and the natural world. She has a deep, intimate relationship with the Mother Earth and works currently in mindfulness practices to increase consciousness in others to foster a return of their relationship with the living Earth.

Garret Liles. Dr. Liles is a Chico, CA native who earned a bachelor’s degree at Chico State with an interdisciplinary special major in soil ecology.
PhD from UC Davis studying soil organic matter and the effects of disturbance and management on the terrestrial Carbon Cycle. Garrett has a diverse professional work history including mapping the soils of Lassen Park for NRCS, analysis and planning of regional biomass to energy projects, and quantifying the effects of riparian restoration at the Cosumnes River Preserve, along with years of running chainsaws, building trails, and managing natural resources operating a shovel. Dr. Liles joined the faculty of the CSU Chico College of Agriculture in 2015 as an assistant professor of soil and plant science and teaches across the spectrum of soils stressing systems and interconnectivity
Kalan Redwood Owner of Redwood Seed company: growing more than 200 seed varieties, 95% of that total is grown locally in their property. Mostly Heirloom and open pollinated varieties that will perform fantastically in our Mediterranean climate.
John Champaign. In Australian and regional permaculture circles, John Champagne is one of the principle Permaculture teachers and has been lead teacher on permaculture courses for over 10 years. John’s teaching career has taken him all over Australia and in recent years to South East Asia where he has taught Permaculture Courses (PDC’s) and workshops in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia. John brings to any event the experience of over 22 years of active involvement in the permaculture movement. From private property design & establishment, consultancies, school gardens and eco-village designs, his activities are well documented.

Bring something to contribute towards our CERTIFICATION Celebration BBQ the last day of the course. You can bring meat, salad, drinks etc..
