What is a Permaculture Design Course?
It is a standard, internationally recognized course presented as a 72-hour curriculum laid out by Bill Mollison in his book “Permaculture: A Designers’ Manual” and taught around the world as a way of introducing people to creating sustainable human settlements and putting humanity on a course to a more sane future.
To whom is directed?
To students, teachers, sustainability projects and businesses, farmers, landowners, ranchers, gardeners, landscapers, architect, horticulturalist, psychologist, sociologist, economist, food shop owners, parents & pretty much anyone who is wanting to create change in their personal lives and the lives around them.
What does it mean to be " certified"?
This certification will open many doors for you around the world. The certification makes you into a Permaculture consultant & designer. Using that for your own land/project or to help others is your choice. You will be allowed to use the word Permaculture in your business and this certification will be recognized by organizations, institutes and other designers all over the world. It is a very good tool to have if you want to head towards a sustainable life or work future. We recommend gardeners, landscapers, farmers, ranchers, architects, land owners, teachers, sustainable business etc to bring at least one of their staff members to this course. You may want to have at least one other person in your team to hold this knowledge & skills.

Here is some of our favorite topics
Tropical
|
Agroforestry in the tropics
Here we will deepen into agroforestry practices: alley cropping, how to restore riparian areas, inter cropping, food forest or edible gardens with perennial systems, working also with the wild & wild foods from forests, etc
A very incredible lecture that will help you look into perennial systems like very resilient food, fiber, energy & animal producing zones that can enhance the possibilities of your farm & also lots of economical enterprices. On day 13th we will be fisically setting up a FOOD FOREST WORKSHOP day where we will see hot to bring together ( canopy trees, fruit trees, shrubs, herbs, flowers, vegetables, bulbs, crolling plants & cover crops making them sustain and work with one another simulating a real forest that produces lots of food. |
Flowers, herbs & Medicinal plants
This would be a very inspirational session where one of our local teachers will take us for a beautiful walk in the land showing us herbs, medicinal plants & flowers that the Hawaiian culture has used over time in their medicines, tinctures, foods and all ways of leaving.
We recommend to bring your camera to this session so you can make pictures of all the different speaces of plants so you can document with images this incredible walking lesson. We can guide you to further learnings on medicinal plants after the training has finished so you have more opportunities to keep learning this incredible topics. |
Regenerative Agriculture & soil restoration
Richard King would delight us on Saturday October 6th with 6hrs of Holistic Management & Regenerative Agriculture.
How to manage the land, animals & the economics of a farm with a holistic approach that benefits the land & profits of the people that live on it. A trully exiting day with someone that has all his life experiencing these practices. If you would like to learn more about Richard King here is his Bio. |
Water design & aquaculture
Water catchments, filtration, ponds & other aquaculture systems to recicle, collect & have other crops & animals in your farm.
Here we will see how Ahimsa Farm has used swales, ponds, slopes and permaculture design to link it all up, making all the main crops ( papayas, bananas, maing garden areas, tree crops etc ) work together with the flow of water going down hill and also using the natural fertilization of the fish water ponds to enhance the fertility of all the tree crops under the ponds using natural gravity to irrigate. A great walkabout in the land that will be trully inspiring. |
Business models
This session is for those who are ready to make this training into a way of bringing money into their lifes.
Here we will approach all the possible businesses that you can create with this certification training. From being a consultant & designer for others, or creating your own farm business, bringing together a community business like a CSA, or setting up social programs in your community ( like community gardens, urban farms, solar companies, etc ) |
